What’s Ailuna all about?

We say we’re here to help you build “habits with impact”, but what does that actually mean? Ailuna combines technology (the app!) with behavioural science and a LOT of passion, to help you build and stick to a series of habits that are designed to be good for you, good for the planet and, most importantly. fun!

The word Ailuna (Ai luna) is Hawaiian and means “up there, aiming high”. Which is pretty fitting, because that’s exactly what we are trying to do. If every single one of us aims high and tries to make changes to our lives, we can build a better future for ourselves and for the planet.

How does Ailuna work?

Ailuna’s habit-building magic starts with our dares. They are designed and written by our dare team. They spend time researching, collating advice and putting it all into the app. When you’re ready to take a dare, we will guide you through the setup process, show you some easy ways to ensure success and guide you every step of the way.

The best thing about Ailuna’s dares is that there are always new ones in development, so every month there will be a choice of new habits you can adopt to make an even bigger difference!

So whether you want to stop using single-use cups or water bottles, switch to loose leaf tea, save water or energy around your home or make sustainable swaps in your bathroom, there’s a dare for you and more on the way!

But that’s not all! Ailuna is built around a community of people just like you – who want to help make a difference to our world, but sometimes find it overwhelming, lonely or just difficult to get started. For each dare, you can connect with other Ailuna users who are on the same journey as you. By sharing your own experience or advice, or asking others for help, you give yourself an even higher chance of succeeding in building sustainable habits that will last a lifetime.

What’s more, you can invite and challenge your friends and family to take part in dares alongside you. There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition between friends to keep you motivated and determined!

As well as the dares and community, the Ailuna app is also a gateway to all of our blog content, the Ailuna shop; where you can buy useful products and starter kits to help you with your chosen dares, and a whole host of articles, hacks, tips and videos. It’s your one-stop-shop for planet-friendly news and information!

Why are Ailuna’s dares unique?

We want to make sure that taking our dares means that you stick to your new habits long-term. That’s why they have been developed alongside a behavioural scientist, as well as including loads of information, tips and support, and a community of people to cheer you on along the way!

Ailuna encourages you to tackle one new habit at a time, rather than taking on something new each day. By sticking to one small change, you’re much more likely to create a lasting habit that makes a real difference. By making tiny changes, a step at a time, you can achieve remarkable results.

Most importantly, Ailuna’s dares are fun and interactive. By inviting your friends and family to join you on a dare, everyone is much more likely to earn their badges and stick to their new habits!

What are people saying about Ailuna?

I was inspired by Ailuna to review my diet and try to eat more vegetarian food.

Ailuna has helped so much with fun, gentle reminders just when I was at the supermarket or pulling out recipe books.
Andrew Brooks, United Kingdom

I no longer use disposable make-up remover pads and have switched to reusable fabric ones (which are made from recycled materials).

I love that the Ailuna dare encouraged me to do this.

How long has it taken to build Ailuna?

The idea for Ailuna first came to co-founders Lars and Helene back in 2018, but the app build actually started in early 2020.  Since then we have built and launched the Ailuna website and blog. The blog now contains more words than your average novel! If you want to see where it all began, here is our very first post, all about building good habits, from back in March 2020.

We’ve also been busy connecting with people on social media, including our Ailuna Community Facebook group. We’d love for you to come and join and share your questions, comments and Ailuna wins with us all.

And, of course, we’ve built the app itself. Thousands of hours of hard work, research, testing, feedback, more testing and more hard work later, and we’re ready to share it with the world. It takes a lot of time and passion to build a great app!

Where is the Ailuna team based?

We’re truly multinational! We have team members in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, the USA and Australia. One of the most amazing things about the Ailuna team is that a lot of us have never met, other than on video calls. We cannot wait to change that and celebrate together very soon, though.
